SHOCK DAMPERS.

2.PER.II. 10.000 MILES TRIAL CAR.

F.100621 U.P. Rear.
F.101822 U.P. Front.

After 10,000 miles.

Unfortunately these dampers were disturbed before being handed over for inspection, thus making it impossible to determine the level or condition of the oil, the loads, or the general condition of the bolts, etc., as regards tightness. Assurance has been obtained that none of the intermediate or the main lever biting-in bolts were definitely slack, nevertheless all the locating keys showed signs of distress, and in one case (N.S. front inter-lever) the key was completely sheared. The inter-lever keys were worse than the main lever keys.

Main Bushes.

These were in excellent condition, there being no appreciable wear, and they were not scored. The inner edges of the large main bushes were slightly damaged when extracting the shafts, due to the fact that the keys, being slack, dropped.

The discs, which were sweated into the rear of the small diameter main bushes - were quite sound, but from the appearance of the junction between the outer periphery of the bush and the main casing, it seemed possible that leakage had occurred, although G.W.H. states that none had been observed.

Rocking Shafts.

These were also in good condition on the bearing surfaces, showing maximum wear of .0005". They were however, scored on the inter-lever section, presumably due to the stretching of the biting-in bolts.

Pistons.

Here again there was no appreciable wear on the bearing surfaces, being just highly polished locally.
