M.Elwell makes a great point of the extreme accuracy with which the whole of the internal parts of this box have to be made in order that the gears may mesh correctly and that the magnet faces may be parallel with each other and at right angles to the shaft.

Another point raised is that of the difficulty which was experienced in maintaining the magnet winding in their slots and preventing them from spreading due to centrifugal forces or vibration and so throwing the gear box out of balance.

We gather they are moulded in solid in bakelite.

Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/Hdy.{William Hardy} raised the question of balance in connection with the Cotal box a long while ago.
