REAR PIVOTTED BRAKE SHOES P.II.

The auxiliary shoe is now given .025" movement at the tip. This .025" corresponds to one notch on the adjustment. That is, an owner cannot take up his adjustment one notch and prevent the auxiliary shoe from rubbing until the main shoe is 2 notches clear of the drum.

We have set all four brakes on one of our cars to a point where one notch can be taken up at the adjustment and maintain the drawing clearances before the auxiliary shoe rubs. In this condition the brake pedal comes down on the floor boards.

To overcome this we find it necessary to reduce the movement of the auxiliary shoe to .015" instead of .025". A clearance on the axle stops at the lever G.78654/ should be .750 to 1.250" before the main shoe comes into contact.

Although the brake rubs when the auxiliary shoe comes into contact with the drum, it is difficult to feel this position on the lever. All clearance measurements should be given to when main shoe comes into contact. The alterations for adjustment should be noted for the instruction book.

The Test Dept. should set the brakes as near to the .750" clearance as possible, before despatch, by means of the toggles.
