YOUR REF Handwritten text: Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/CTS.{C. Trot Salt - Carburation} See me 1256 1st February, 1941. For the attention of W.A.Robotham Esq. Messrs. Rolls-Royce, Limited, Derby. Dear Sirs, We must apologise for the delay in replying to your letter of the 9th ulto., as when we received your Drawing L.M.101, we anticipated that the forgings to be supplied would be such that no machining would be required on the inside, and thus we should be able to machine these 24 special Pistons for you fairly quickly. The forgings, 18 only in number, however, have recently been received from High Duty Alloys, and these are the standard Merlin type forgings, not rough machined, which will necessitate complete machining of the inside. Whilst we regret it very much indeed, as we are anxious to assist you at all possible times, we cannot machine these forgings to our Drawing L.M.101, without making new profile plates etc., and also interrupting our Merlin production line. In these circumstances we shall be glad to receive your further advice on the matter, as it occurs to us that as you are requiring the Pistons urgently, you may wish to make some other arrangements. Yours faithfully, For WELLWORTHY PISTON RINGS LIMITED, P. Walden. General Manager. ROLLS-ROYCE A.C.9. BEARINGS ALUMINIUM CASTINGS LABORATORY TESTING CYLINDER LINERS & LINER CASTINGS | ||
