Dear Sirs,

In reply to your letter of the 25th.inst. We have gone carefully into the question of fitting the Houdaille Shock absorbers to the rear of our 40/50 HP. chassis. Enclosed is a blue-print of a scheme which shows the position in which it should be fitted in order to allow the maximum movement of the springs.

We invariably find that shock absorbers fitted by outside people, give trouble due to toggling or fouling some portion of the chassis or body. We have frequently been asked by our customers to remove these fittings because of this trouble. If proper consideration had been given when the parts were originally fitted, this should not have occurred.

We admit that a car may be fitted up with shock absorbers which do not allow the proper spring movement and may run for years without giving trouble - it is only when an exceptional condition is met that the trouble may be manifest.
