Mr. Goose has examined our car 20-EX on which the wheel arch clearances had been modified according to our recommendations in Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/AJL.1/AD.1.10.29; he applied his usual rolling test, which incidentally we do not consider in any way unfair or excessive, and was satisfied that the clearance was sufficient. He then stated that the standard production cars when made with clearances to our recommendations, did not give the same results. On going into the matter we find that all our experimental subframes are .300" narrower than the production subframes. (We asked for more clearance between the subframe and the chassis to facilitate body mounting at the time when we mounted our first bodies). This explains the discrepancy between our experimental results and production experience.

To bring the clearance on standard cars up to our own it is necessary to still further reduce the subframe by ½" along the top and bottom flange. The max. we can give without altering existing subframes is to cut them away for 6.25" in front of and 5.0" to the rear of the rear axle centre line.
