SECRET. To Der Swell 654 URGENT. HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} c. By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} E/JNR.{Charles L. Jenner}1/HP.22.1.37. WRAITH II - Engine Oil Relief Valves. The preliminary running of the engine has shewn up that there is a noise in the relief valves due to them bouncing on their seats. We were aware that we might run into this trouble but on account of expense we did not wish to start off by fitting the non chattering type of valve. We send you herewith LeC.5485 which calls for making three valve plugs RS.{Sir Henry Royce's Secretary}421/2/3. The other parts are as used on Phantom III. Although we have shewn the non chattering device fitted to the bypassed valve on the cleaner we do not think this is necessary because it will be realised that the only time this valve should open is when the cleaner is dirty.
