-4- Shock Dampers. continued. 3. Pistons - Condition good, no appreciable wear on the diameter. Contact pads slightly worn and one or two shew evidence of slight flaking. 4. Main & Inter: Levers & Rocking Shafts General condition good, maximum wear on rocking shafts being .0005" on diameter, but all locating keys were found to be damaged. One(N.S. front inter: lever) was completely sheared. This is attributed to stretching of the biting-in bolts. 5. Ball End Pins - These were worn from .002" to .004". 6. Valves etc. - The valves, seats and external pressure cylinders in perfect condition. 7. Glands - These are of the straight faced cork rubber type. A permanent set of approximately .125" has taken place in each case. 8. Gland Covers - These have distorted leaving gaps of .002 - .003 beneath the centre of the faces on three dampers, whilst there was a gap of .008" on the N.S. rear damper. This cover was removed whilst in France and pressed on over a vellumoid washer in order to cure leaks from between the faces. Anchorage for Front Axle Control Damper - RR. Scheme 246 1.
