EXPERIMENTAL DESIGNS. X8770

We thank you for your HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}4/LG10527. replying to our DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}2/M7527., and note with interest your comments on the items. We hope when you visit WW. next week you will be able to call at 'CamachaHenry Royce's office in West Wittering' so that we may hear some more details about these, and other matters. We would offer the following comments -

PHANTOM.

(1) FRAMED INSTRUMENTS.

The use of silvered dials is no doubt in itself quite alright, but we believe R.{Sir Henry Royce} still insists on cream dials. We therefore think, in order not to still more hold up this experiment and cause unnecessary comment, EAC. 7. should not appear at WW. with silvered dials.

Have you been able to obtain an A.T. speedometer with a trip according to our design N. sch. 2226. We notice on the arrangement there is no trip shewn.?

(2) DIPPING HEADLAMPS.

We agree that a standardisation sheet for the above should be started as soon as possible. There will be opposition from Sales, but we have a strong backing from R.{Sir Henry Royce} Would BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} send us a layout of the headlamps and controls etc, as they have been applied to the present Phantom, so that we may look over any details before giving our word.

(3) REAR WHEEL & LUGGAGE CARRIER.

BJ. and LHS.{Lord Herbert Scott} are holding this up on account of the cost as supplied by Derby, and also because they wish us to improve the appearance of the side carrier when the wheel is at the rear. We have a scheme about to be sent to you for this. We also have to send you a scheme for improving the ground clearance under the tail lamp.

(4) SHEET METAL WING STAYS.

The designs have been sent to Derby, and we await bending templates from the coachbuilders.

(7) CAST DASH.

Although this may not be required now in order to provide a steady steering column, we still wish for it, or its equivalent, in order that we may have a bonnet which will be easy to open and shut, and free from rattles.
