Shock Absorber, neater fittings could be incorporated.

Rear: The shock absorbers for the rear fitting will have 7" straight lever arms, the connecting rod being of our latest design, and this rod will pick up the existing Hartford Bracket which is clamped round the axle housing. As you already have an existing plate bracket we are proposing to slightly modify this, the new plate having an extension on it to carry the shock absorber, the position of which is defined by the petrol tank supporting Brackets. There is one slight alteration which will have to be made and that is that the forward of these two brackets must be bolted to the inside of the plate now instead of outside.

We think this will be quite clear to you from the enclosed Blue Print.

From our experience of fitting Houdaille shock absorbers to the rear of your 40-50 h.p. model with cantilever springs, we are of the opinion that 7" lever arms are amply long enough and that there is no possibility of any "toggling".

When you receive the shock absorbers, you will observe the valve adjustment, and we need scarcely remind you that in the fully open position there is very slight checking of rebound. The exact position to get the most satisfactory results can only be determined by road test, but once the setting has been obtained, we think you will find that for no matter how many thousands of miles you may test them, the efficiency will never vary, and the only attention they will ever require, may be the introduction through the filler cap every 4-5000 miles of a small amount of the dope which we are sending you, and which is the fluid we recommend.

You will find keys for moving the regulating rod in the Boxes in which the shock absorbers are sent to you.

Yours faithfully,

THE HOUDAILLE HYDRAULIC SUSPENSION CO. LTD.,
