Dear Mr. West,

I have been meaning to write to you for some time to say how satisfactory I think you have got the charging rates on the present dynamos. They seem to me to be almost ideal for battery conditions. In the old days when one's battery was fully charged it got 8 or 10 amperes pumped into it when one or two would be quite sufficient to keep it up and in consequence the water was evaporated and the plates threw down sediment. I find on my Bentley that within a very short time of starting, the battery is being charged at about 2 amperes all the time which is just what it wants and certainly does not want any more.

There is one snag about all this and that is, as far as I can see the batteries are going to last fully 50% longer if not more, and our replacement business will be seriously affected. I suppose we must put up with this and hope that more new cars are sold! Anyway, I think you have got the thing about as good as it can be got, judging from results on my car.

Yours sincerely,

[Signature]
G.R.N. Minchin.
