| [strikethrough]R. {Sir Henry Royce} [/strikethrough] FROM E. {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Copy to SG. {Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} " HS. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} " [underline]RV.[/underline] ORIGINAL [underline]SECRET.[/underline] SS. {S. Smith} CRANKSHAFT REAR OIL FLINGER. [underline]X7010[/underline] We understand that when the above is made to the original LeC. design with the clearance at A. {Mr Adams} fig. 1. as shewn on the drawing - e.g. about .035", there is [strikethrough]no oil leakage[/strikethrough]. On the examples which were not satisfactory this clearance was found to be .1". [underline]FIG I[/underline] A [underline]FIG II[/underline] The double flinger as in fig. 2. introduced to cure this leak has given absolute satisfaction, and we feel that although more complicated its larger margin of safety is worth having.
