BENTLEY AND WRAITH. BRICO CYLINDER INSERTS.

Referring to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/CTS.{C. Trot Salt - Carburation}9/JH.11.10.38. I am in agreement with the suggestion that we should try out a hard insert as produced by the Brico Co. to try and eliminate the wear at the upper end of the stroke where reversal takes place on the extreme position of the upper piston ring.

I agree from my experience that always on chassis and aero the maximum wear takes place at the upper end of the stroke over a length varying from 1/4" to 3/8" according to the length of stroke.

My opinion is that it has to do with:-

(a). Gas pressure.
(b). The tendency of the ring to roll in the groove at the point of reversal.
