Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}2/R.10.6.39. MINUTES OF TESTERS' CONFERENCE HELD IN Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}'s TECHNICAL OFFICE 9.6.39. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} pointed out that everybody's energy must be concentrated on getting 30-G-VII away before the end of the month. This car should leave England on Monday, June 26th. Waller is responsible for preparing a shortage list of the parts which we wish to get on this car, and seeing R.H. before the car goes in the Shop. He will then get a ruling as to what can, or can not get on the car by the date specified and will inform Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} It will be remembered that this is not the last 8-cylinder car that is going to France, but we must get to know whether any major alterations are required to the axle or the gearbox to enable them to deal with this 5 1/4-litre engine. The following points were raised during the discussion:- (1) Tension shackles should be fitted. (2) Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} should try to get a ribbed clutch pit on the car. (3) Yoke pieces with reduced castor, if available. (See 7) (4) A new Buick silencer should be fitted as the existing silencer has already had severe treatment round Brooklands. The existing silencer should be taken out as a spare. In the meantime, Wym.{G. Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager} will try and get a replica of the Buick silencer made in better material. (5) JBD.{John B. Dixon - Fuel Systems} pointed out that the brake and servo lining required changing. He promised that when this was done there would be no more servo jaggers. (6) CTS.{C. Trot Salt - Carburation} stated that he had an induction system which was better for loading up. This should be fitted to the car before it goes. | ||
