the bearing rollers do not fill the spaces between the races by one and one half thousandths (0.0015) inch will eliminate much of the noise that comes from the bearings, provided the bearings are as good as the ones we use and are within the same tolerances we get from our makers. Other noises that caused the rejection of some of our transmissions after installation were cured by adding weight to the engine fly-wheel; and it is our experience that it is advizable to search for transmission noises elsewhere than in the transmission, as we have them coming off now at the Chrysler plant. In order that you may understand the positions of Mr. Neracher and myself in connection with these transmission matters, I will tell you that Mr. C. A.{Mr Adams} Neracher is transmission engineer, or consulting transmission engineer, with the Chrysler Corporation and that he designed the transmission I am sending to you. He is quite the best and most experienced designer of internal gearing transmissions in the United States; and, of course, that puts him at the top in general transmission design; that is, in the top flight. My position is that of licensing engineer for Automotive Research Corporation, which owns the patents on internal gearing transmissions for the U.S. and Canada and I am also associated with Automotive Patent Holding Corporation, which owns the English and European patents on these devices. I am attaching my card to this letter so that you will have it for your files. Whatever I can do to assist you in learning the advantages of internal gearing or in securing internal gears, if you want them made in this country, I shall, of course, be glad to do. It is also my function and you will incur no obligation in asking any assistance I can give you at any time. However, the English and European rights are handled entirely separately from the United States and Canadian rights and will have to be taken up thru separate corporations and representatives if you are interested. Whatever Mr. Neracher does for you thru me is due to his kindly interest and because of his friendship for Mr. Maurice Olley and has nothing to do with the services of my corporation, which are, perhaps, not so disinterested as to motive. All of the internal gearing transmissions made in the United States are licensed under our patents and all business in connection with these licenses is conducted thru me, so that I am in position to give you whatever information is available on the subject of business arrangements and also on the technical aspect of the subject, in which I have Mr. Neracher's thoroly able assistance. In closing, I will tell you that I have cabled a firm at Elland, Yorkshire, England concerning an intake silencer and air-cleaner (combined) which they have advertised in our "Automotive Industries" for October 11th. and have tried to convince them that I am the right man to handle it for them in the U. S. If you know anything about this device, I shoud be glad to learn | ||
