40/50 REAR BRAKES.

Replying to your BY8/H15725., as in the case of the 20HP. chassis, Mr. Royce would like to try a simple form of cover on the 40/50., and we send herewith N. scheme 2039. shewing how we suggest it might be experimentally fitted up.

The proposal to carry the existing sheet metal cover around the outside of the ribbed drum did not give very successful results when it was the standard arrangement on the 20HP. The drum acted as a centrifugal fling and filled the brakes with mud.

There are however other rather more complicated covers which could be suggested, but Mr. Royce for the moment would like to try the simple one we have indicated on N.scheme 2039.

Referring to the question of material we suggest that both on the 20HP. and the 40/50. the cover should be made in thick aluminium, and it may be that if the type shewn on this design is satisfactory, we shall be glad to use aluminium, as the cover itself is somewhat protected from direct hits from stones. If we have to go to one round the outside of the drum of any form, we think it will be necessary to make it of steel.
