TO BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} FROM DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} C. to - CJ. HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}: ORIGINAL DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}3/M21. 7. 25. 'V' SERIES - REAR ANCHORAGE OF /8410 FRONT SPRINGS. In lubricating Mr. Royce's car down here the oil from the gun appeared to ooze outside the anchorage immediately any pressure was applied, no appreciable resistance being offered. There seems no doubt that this car is fitted with the original scheme shewn on N. scheme 1898. in which we agree that the seal for the oil is insufficient. We wonder whether the modified arrangement shewn on the Derby drawing - F.71992. - is effective? In any case however Mr. Royce would like to provide an alternative, and to have it tested. We send herewith N. scheme 2040. shewing what he proposes. The advantage of this is that the whole lubricating fitting can be removed and examined for damage, or cleaned. We presume however that in order to make a joint at the bottom it will be necessary to sweat the tube into the bracket at the bottom. It will be noticed that we have pushed the point of entry of the oil into the pin a little further in so as to make sure that none escapes to the outside. All the pressings are unaltered.
