SpectreCodename for Phantom III - Girling Brakes.

Herewith are N. Sch's 4347 and 4356 which shew the rear Girling brakes.

The provision of separate shoes and operation for the hand brake presents a difficulty, and we have to arrange a transfer lever to transfer the brake operation from the point where it can cross the axle to the point where the wedge conveniently comes. This is only on the hand brake and if it were found possible to use one pair of shoes for both brakes, this complication, along with others would disappear. The Girling layouts so far seen do have only one pair of shoes.

We have made provision for lubrication, but we hope the Girling method of packing with grease will be found sufficient.

We have modified the shoe fulcrums, compared with Girlings, to allow of a ground fulcrum pin and more surface for wear.

We have made provision for a water excluder on the drums, but we shall send another drawing dealing with experimental ribbing of the drums.

N.Sch's.4347/4356 herewith.
