-2- Hm {Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} 's Dept (Hm {Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} is absent) NRC {N. R. Chandler} 10/M/27.6.28. That a spring of the 2½" deflection type breaks, we send a pair of the 25% stiffer springs and (a) If the car is out of its guarantee and the broken spring has given say 3 years service, we charge the customer for 1 new spring only and the other to W.P. account. (b) If the customer has already had repeated breakages and the broken spring has only given short service, we supply a pair of 25% stiffer springs to W.P. We see no other way out of the difficulty, because it is quite certain that if we continue to replace broken springs one at a time, as they fail, that the trouble will be always with us and customers will become more and more upset.
