showed an improvement over the previous unit it was not considered good enough to send to Sq.
a further cyl head was tried having .24 larger exhaust valves fitted
Result. Back firing was worse and more easily obtained.
Saturday 16th
(a.{Mr Adams}) Cyl head removed and new cyl block fitted with all water holes clear (Standard cyl blocks have water holes blocked up at the front 3 cyls with the exception of one dowel hole)
Result no improvement on standard type.
(b.) Engine run with asbestos lagging kept wet on the inlet and exhaust manifolds.
Result no noticeable improvement.
Monday 17th
Engine stripped and standard cyl block refitted. a new cyl head having the water passages well cleared was fitted.
Result.
no improvement, it was not possible to clear the water passages sufficiently.
