AUTOVAC.

You will remember previous correspondence which has taken place between us on the subject of the occasional erratic working of the autovac.

In my last memo I asked whether you had found it possible to reproduce a condition which led to the gradual filling up of the autovac float. It was suggested that some circumstance might cause the float to be only partially emptied, so that on each occasion on running the engine, the amount of petrol inside the float was gradually built up until it contained so much that it would not lift.

We have recently experienced another case of this trouble, in which it has been found that the float is in perfect condition and it can only be assumed that the filling up had occurred through the suction valve having become stuck at some time.

I attach the report on this particular car. The whole experience would see to show that there may be troubles arising from the use of the so called self emptying float.
