BROLST LIMITED. Continuation Sheet...1... Messrs.Rolls-Royce, Ltd., Derby. With regard to Starters. We enclose blue prints Nos.944/7 & 942/7 showing the outline dimensions of our L3 type Starter and L2 type Starter respectively, these being suggested as being suitable for the 40/50 H.P.Car and 20 H.P. Car. The prints show these machines with our Automatic Pinion Engagement, but you would, of course, require these with plain shaft end for driving your own Starter Gear. The torque of the larger machine is approximately 54 lb inch at 1400 R.P.M. which with the 23.3 to 1 ratio would give 60 R.P.M. Crankshaft rolling speed. The small machine has a torque of 66 lb inch at 500 R.P.M. which with a ratio of 8.4 to 1 would also give a rolling speed of 60 R.P.M. on the 20 H.P. Crankshaft. We have not put forward here any special machines evolved to meet your requirements, but have merely sent particulars of our nearest present standard types in order to give you an idea of what we are doing. The regulation of the Dynamo is by the usual third brush method of control permitting of ready adjustment of the output, and giving a falling off in the output at high speeds, which is a very desirable feature. As regards silence - all our machines have the armature slots on the skew with tapered poles to graduate the field, so that we have had no trouble whatever with noisy running, but it is quite possible that they would not satisfy the Rolls-Royce requirements. By specially designing the machines, however, we think we could get great improvement in this respect, and the undersigned would like to have the opportunity of discussing the matter further with you. If, therefore, Mr.Clark would be so kind as to let us know whether it would be convenient to call, say on Wednesday next, we should be pleased to do so. Thanking you, and assuring you of our best attention. Yours faithfully, For BROLST LIMITED. Wm Holt DIRECTOR | ||
