DERBY.

Dear Mr. Grylls,

MOBILOIL "GX"

Confirming recent telephone conversation we have repeated the corrosion tests indicated in your letter with the same sample of oil which Mr. Russell Sharp returned.

In the same tests we also included pieces of phosphor-bronze. The corrosion on the steel parts was negligible and that on the phosphor-bronze was slight. At the same time we carried out the same tests on a sample of new MOBILOIL "GX" from our present stock, as a basis for comparison, and the results were similar.

In order to accentuate any possible corrosion effects we repeated the tests again with the addition of 1% moisture in the oil, and while the corrosion on the steel parts in this case was visible it was by no means bad, while the corrosion on the bronze parts was more pronounced than without the water, as would naturally be expected.

I gathered from your remarks that you had been carrying out some Laboratory experiments and would be forwarding some further information which might guide us in a solution of this problem. We shall certainly be very interested in any information you can send to us.

With kind regards,

Yours sincerely,
