2. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer}8/MH.{M. Huckerby} bearing cages, and not by moving the bearings apart. It is therefore, important that the limits shown are adhered to. An official order for these cams will follow shortly. We have recently experienced a failure of the roller bearings inside the roller follower of one of our Phantom III Chassis. This failure occurred after 12,846 miles of endurance testing on the Continent, and consisted of crushing of five of the 0.187 dia. rollers. We are puzzled as to the cause of this failure as previous identical parts have successfully completed much longer distances. Our Laboratory have examined the broken rollers for material flaws, but have not found any. We are returning, under separate cover, the broken parts for your inspection. Will you please let us know whether you can find anything that would explain the failure. Yours faithfully, for ROLLS - ROYCE LTD. | ||
