| -4- (5) Best ring and cylinder operation is obtained with cylinder bores as nearly round and straight as possible and with lapped surfaces. (6) As a rule the oils which reduce ring and cylinder wear promote ring sticking, though there is evidence that lubricants definitely superior to present standard products in both particulars will be available soon. (7) Blow by is one important cause of ring and cylinder wear. (8) Ring and cylinder wear is aggravated by increase in operating speed. (9) Fancy rings and ring expanders apparently serve no useful purpose. (10) Dry wear tests seem to have some significance in predicting behaviour of materials in engines.
