To By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} 1263 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/JBD.{John B. Dixon - Fuel Systems}16/JH.16.4.37. S.U. PETROL PUMPS. We have had repeated cases of petrol pumps failing on both test rig and cars with small pieces of wood shaving getting lodged under the valves and holding them open. The pumps are received wrapped in grease proof paper and brown paper and there is no wood wool used in S.U. Works. We suspect these pieces get on in the stores where the pumps are unpacked. The safe guard against this or any other foreign matter getting into the pumps we suggest that the pumps are supplied with screw on cap nuts and these are not to be removed except when the pump is tested and fitted to the chassis. The plugs should then be returned to the S.U.Co. For service pumps the same should apply the plug off the replacement pump being returned on the faulty pump. The S.U. Co. would be willing to make brass plugs provided we lent them taps for the threads. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/J.B.Dixon. | ||
