To Sft{Mr Swift}/JWG. From Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} (Glasgow). c. to Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}15/KW.20.1.40. Sft{Mr Swift}/JWG.5/IMP.19.1.40. I wish to make it clear that the Rolls-Royce factory at Glasgow is entirely Air Ministry property, and has nothing to do with Rolls-Royce Ltd., Derby. We must dismiss the idea that the machines on order for Glasgow can be called upon whenever convenient. The Glasgow factory has made certain promises to the Air Ministry which they must keep, and for which they alone are responsible. On no account could we consider taking machines from Glasgow for Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}'s development work. The place where Glasgow can help is that if orders are placed for machines by Derby and they are quoted late deliveries, it may be possible to change over a Glasgow machine of a similar type which has a better delivery, but this is entirely dependent upon Glasgow being satisfied that it will not interfere with their programme.
