Mr.C.Ward, Messrs. Park Ward & Co.Ltd., 473, High Road, Willesden, London N.W.10. Dear Mr.Ward, Re: Petrol Fillers - Bentley V.{VIENNA} We have experienced some difficulty in filling the petrol tanks of the Bentley V.{VIENNA} Drop Head Coupe - 10.B.5. and also the Square Cornered Green Saloon - 12.B.5. It is reported that this is due in a very large measure to the run of the large diameter vent pipe which comes from the top of the tank to the filler pipe just below the cap. In the case of the Coupe, this was taken out horizontally from the tank and then dipped down to pass under the bottom edge of the wheel arch before rising, so producing a petrol lock. We would call your attention to the necessity of fitting this pipe as indicated on our scheme drawing, in which case there is always a steady rise of the pipe so that petrol cannot lie in the vent pipe and cause a lock. The vent pipe passes through a hole in the inner valance of the wheel arch and has been made with rubber joints so that it may be assembled after the body is mounted. We believe that this matter has already been brought to your notice verbally, but we wished to put it on record, in order that there may be no doubt about the perfection of the standard Bentley V.{VIENNA} Saloon. Yours faithfully, For Rolls-Royce Limited. Chief Engineer - Chassis. | ||
