contd :- -3- works outwards from this groove. Holes P. are drilled so that oil, after it has passed through the bearing, overflows and so prevents any pressure building up between the ends of the brake shafts and the bearing cap, thus preventing any distortion of the bracket to which the bearing cap is bolted. While employing this modification we have been unable to produce any distortion of the bracket. There is a possibil-ity however of mud entering the small holes P. If these holes are left out, slight distortion can be produced by application of the grease gun. We have not however been able to produce any permanent set in the bracket, and the slight distortion which takes place is probably quite useful in that it produces slight end motion between the shafts and the bearing cap and assists the oil flow. It is recommended that this modification, without the use of holes P. (Fig.2.) be adopted. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/A.J.Lidsey. | ||
