| 16th. November 1937. Comparison of Body Weights of the Oldsmobile, Vauxhall, and Park Ward all Metal body as fitted to 4¼ litre Bentley chassis. Direct comparison of the weights on the Oldsmobile, Vauxhall and Bentley bodies, is somewhat difficult, since in the case of the two former cars so little analysis has been done. The following figures however, are of some interest, Olds. Vauxhall. Bentley. Total coachwork weight 1197.86 1214 1038¾ Body complete less wings and 1009.77 937 886¼ running boards. Front Wings and running 117.58 73½ 121½ boards Rear Wings 39 20½ 27 Front seats, runners and rear 103 90 cushion Although as will be seen from the foregoing figures the Bentley body is the lightest, one must bear in mind the fact that both the Oldsmobile and Vauxhall bodies are of the six light type, and have considerably more room in them than the Bentley. The disparity in the weight of the wings and running boards on these cars would seem to be the result of different section steel being used, and of very different wing design. | ||
