Dear Sirs,

Brake Drum Liners.

We enclose herewith drawings of an Aluminium brake drum and its cast iron liner. The interference fit between the two is .026" to .030" obtained by shrinking the liner into the aluminium case which is raised to 220°C.

We should like to know the cost of 400 pairs of liners, finished machined on the outside ready for shrinking in, rough machined on the inside ready for final turning or grinding when the drum is built on its hub, we to do the shrinking in, in this Works.

(a) For carbon steel liners, Brinell figure about 300.

(b) For nitrided liners, Brinell figure about 1,000.

For test purposes, if your quotation was satisfactory we could send you a pair of aluminium cases, finished machined on the inside ready to receive the liners, you to prepare the liners and shrink them in, we to finish the inside of the liner after building it on to its hub (This is our standard practice.)

We should also like a quotation for the latter work.

(a) For a pair of liners having a Brinell figure of about 300.
