For the attention of Mr.Emmott.

Dear Sirs,

We should like to bring to your notice the position of Lockheed hydraulic jacks for the Phantom III. chassis.

At the Olympia Show, 1935, Lockheeds were approached in this connection. Since then they have supplied for tests jacks and brackets which have been suitable except for the locking of the top cap of the jack. This point has now been corrected.

In spite of repeated enquiries for a pump to operate the jacks, none has been forthcoming, although at intervals from a year ago we have had letters saying it would arrive in a fortnight.

In view of the fact that we have been testing the jacks for about a year but cannot get a pump, we are wondering whether you have decided you do not want the business. We can understand this attitude since the amalgamation of the other jack manufacturers, which has caused a considerable reduction in the price of their components. If our surmise is true, we should be glad of confirmation so that we can discontinue our tests. If not true, we would ask you to reconsider your original quotation which is no longer a competitive price.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED.
