-3- B.III. We have a frame for the first car, and the Drawing Office is clear of instructions for this chassis. We do not expect that the body will have to wait an appreciable time for the chassis. We hope to have a car running by the end of January. B.50. Work is continuously going on with regard to price investigations of materials and parts bought outside. We should like to put in hand a long wheel-base frame for a saloon with division for B.50, but find it difficult to do this until the dimensions of the body are settled. The gearbox, axle and engine projects are making good progress in the Drawing Office, but no drawings have yet been issued. MISCELLANEOUS. We have an engine rigged up for investigat-ing cylinder bore wear. It is fitted with liners so that various types of material can be tested. The engine is arranged with automatic controls so that it can run day and night. It can be used in the Cold Chamber, or under normal atmospheric conditions. Single cylinder work has now been suspended as we believe that this cannot usefully be continued until we have got some confirmatory main engine results. We find that the S.S. Co. have confirmed the results we obtained which showed that a duplex exhaust system greatly reduced power loss at this point. We are going ahead to try and develop a practical scheme for B.50.
