SPECIFICATION OF INSPECTION, ADJUSTMENT, AND TEST, OF SWITCHBOX FOR PHANTOM III.

Type:- Master switch type, with provision for two separate ignition coils.

Inspection.

Examination should be made as follows :-
(1) The two main solid contacts operating on the rotating drum. These should be free on their pivots, and have a spring pressure, when in contact, of not less than 14 ozs.
(2) The main laminated contact, and the motor push button switch contacts for spring pressure as judged by the "lift" of these contacts on their respective contact sections.
(3) All contacts should be well greased with vaseline.
(4) The main switch and ignition switch levers should be tried for correct, and smooth operation.
(5) In particular it should be ascertained that there is no tendency for the push button to stick in the "on" position.
(6) It should be confirmed that the switch can be locked in the "Off" and "P.L." positions only.

Insulation.

With the main and ignition switch levers in the "Off" position :-
(1) The insulation of the various contacts from the case, and from the battery positive terminal, shall be tested by applying an alternating voltage of 200, through a lamp, between the case and each terminal in turn, and afterwards between the positive terminal and each of the remaining terminals in turn.
(2) In a similar manner, test the insulation between terminal No.6 on the one hand, and terminals 3A, 3B and 11, in turn, on the other. Also between 3A and 3B themselves.
(3) Finally the insulation should be tested between terminals No.8 on the one hand, and terminals T and 10 on the other.
