HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} ~~C. to Mr. NORTH.~~ ~~C. to SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}~~ ORIGINAL R2/M19.10.27. WATFORD CLOCK. x 4662 ~ I received the sample clock sent to me direct from Watford. It would not start because the hair spring was hung up on the regulating pins - i.e. two convolutions jammed in between the two pins. This was very easily corrected, but it should be made impossible to so foul. After running well for two weeks (with weekly winding) it mysteriously stopped twice. On the second occasion I thought I detected a jam in the hand setting gear, which does not appear a good piece of work. Also I would like Mr. North to satisfy himself that the whole gearing right through the clock is really correctly cut and set to the best depth, and that the main spring is not unduly stressed, and therefore liable to break. I ask this from the impression I have that there is room for improvement. Otherwise I am very pleased with the clock. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
