(3) The bearings have been hammered out causing them to be a larger dia. in the centre i.e. They drop in the housings easy so far, then have to be pressed in. [Diagram of a bearing in a housing] Below surface when finally pressed home. With the springiness and distortion we cannot arrive at a figure of wear of the bearing surface and the condition of the surface does not indicate wear. The following are the measurements taken of the journal bearings with paper packings placed underneath and on top to take out slackness in the housing. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 Front (A) 2.252 2.2515 2.250 2.254 2.2535 2.2515 2.252" Rear 2.25225 2.251 2.250 2.254 2.2535 2.2515 2.252" Front (B) 2.252 2.251 2.2525 2.250 2.252 2.2525 2.252 Rear 2.25225 2.251 2.2525 2.250 2.252 2.2525 2.252 With the paper packings taken out these dimensions were increased by approx. .008" 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 .006" .007" .008" .0085" .011" .009" .011" Slackness in housing. | ||
