re J.3. Oil Operated Tappets.

Replying to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wym.{G. Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager}13/KT.2.8.9.33, the result of this test shews that we ought to use the larger diameter of pipe, namely 5/16" for the oil supply to the rockers, so as to avoid excessive pressure drop in the pipe line, which would be bad for oil distribution along the rocker shaft, and also to have an adequate supply of oil.

We should like to see J.3. chassis now fitted with a Tecalemit felt filter as used on the 20/25 Tank engine, and a reliability test made to determine whether this filter will be a sufficient safeguard in preventing any of the plungers being jammed with grit.

We shall also be interested to know what results are obtained from the eccentric adjusters when lined with white metal.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}
