SLIDING KEYS IN PROPELLER SHAFT BEHIND FORWARD UNIVERSAL JOINT. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Grys. has complained of inadequate lubrication of the above part, which is the result of complete loss of lubricant from between the surfaces. Some 5 1/2 years ago we instructed the use of Duckham's H.B.B. grease for this position. In 1934 as a result of some experimental work, we were instructed to use Mobilgrease No.2. This is, however, a thick oil, and not a grease, as it is escaping too freely from the joint. We have not had a single complaint of the behaviour of this part when it was packed with Duckhams H.B.B. grease. We wish the Works to revert to the use of this grease for the sliding joint only, the universal itself will be lubricated with Mobilgrease No.2. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} | ||
