We are proposing to carry out tests immediately on one of our battery ignition distributors and coils to ascertain if our coil will deliver sufficient voltage with the extra capacity leak. It would help matters if we reduced the plug gaps to about .012 to .015 as in aero practice.

On the Flying Squad cars used by Scotland Yard they find that on their radio equipped cars they can dispense with the metal screening of the wires by using a very high resistance which they insert in each high tension wire. The effect of this high resistance choke is to damp out the higher frequency surges which cause the radio disturbances. With the use of these high resistance chokes, however, the sparking plugs require attention more frequently due to the fact that a slight amount of carbon causing a leak on the plug will produce misfires. We will arrange to ascertain if this scheme is any better than the screened wire system.

With regard to the switch for lamps and ignition, apparently our own switchbox is unneccessasily large and expensive for their purpose as from our telephone conversation we gathered that they will only require one switch for the lamps i.e. side and tail and one switch for ignition and charge the charge always being on. We would like this to be confirmed as on the old C.A.V. Bosch switch fitted to the existing tank, the tail lamp was switched on independently of the side lamps i.e. there were two switches on the lamp side. We are ascertaining if there is a suitable simpler type of switch than our own on the market which will be much less expensive for this job.
