Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/TMW/LG13.6.24. SHELL SUPER LIGHT OIL. The two Eagle XV's were originally run on the above oil, but owing to the laggard manner in which the change speed mechanism was operated at high temperatures, it was decided to use Castrol. Instructions to this effect should therefore follow the engine which has been despatched to 'Fairey's'. The Laboratory report on the viscosities is as follows :- Oil. Temperature. Time. Flash point. Castrol 70°C 198 secs. 235°C. Shell 70°C 85 secs. 181°C It was also noticed that the interior of the engine had a dirty sooty deposit everywhere, which is nothing-like so noticeable when using Castrol. Attached will be found the times taken to change speeds with both oils, the minimum r.p.m. at which this could be done and difference in H.P. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/TMW. | ||
