We started off with the fixed idea that we would not use drilled valves on Phantom II, but the Repair Dept. have managed to reduce so many Phantom I complaints by lubricating road springs and drilled valves since your memos R.4/M15.2.29 and R.3/M19.4.29 agreeing to drilled H.P. valves that they want to use them on Phantom II complaints.

You will recollect that we improved Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}'s own car by this means and he has recently commented favourably on the American P.I chassis so fitted.

We ourselves consider that the American car represents a very good compromise for the average Rolls-Royce owner.

With reference to the 20 HP. We have a certain number of complaints of the riding on this chassis, and in some cases find it difficult to satisfy the customers. Our own opinion is that we have the same sort of troubles on the 20 HP. but a much larger proportion of our customers are owner drivers who are not habitually, riding in the back seats. We do believe, however, that the 20 HP. is less troublesome but think there is room for improvement for the present road conditions and average speeds.
