re 20/25 Tank Installation Screening of Battery Ignition, etc.

-------------------------------------------------

We had a visit yesterday morning from an official of MGO.11. War Office Wireless Department, Miss Champness, as foreshadowed in memo F.15/JL.16.12.32 for the purpose of discussing the question of the wireless screening as set out in the aforementioned memo.

As a result of the discussion, we shall receive the considered opinion of Major Carter of MGO.11. on the merits of scheme D.570 which we have contracted to supply. We were, however, informed by Miss Champness that in any case it would be necessary to fit a choke and condenser in the L.T. side of the battery ignition and as close up to the distributor and coil as possible, and also that they must insist on cambric covered armoured cable. Particulars of the choke coil and condenser will be supplied and we have written today asking for these to be sent as soon as possible to enable an early test of the ignition to be made with these additional features incorporated.

We also understand that a choke and condenser will be required in the dynamo circuit as close up to the dynamo as possible. Who will supply and fix these additional features is not yet decided, and naturally is not covered by our existing contract.

Sft.{Mr Swift} expects to have the second Tank installation ready for test soon after Christmas, and as soon as this date becomes a little more definite we shall notify the War Office that we are ready for them to make an actual test of scheme D.570 for interference.

It is very clear from the discussion which occurred that an improved scheme of screening will eventually be required which both mechanically and electrically concurs with the W.O. screening specification handed to us by Mr. Sheryer on the 24th ultimo. There is one point however in this specification to which we very definitely object and
