841991 D/L. from G.Ratcliffe. 12.10.32. Re. Accident on Osmaston Park Road. I was driving the car 1.P.II on return to works, and at 12-23 pm. I had a slight collision with a Morris car M.T.3905 registration, driven by M.r. C.S.Heath, 158 Warwick Avenue, Derby. The cause of the accident was due to a girl about 9 or 10 years of age, residing at 229, Osmaston Park Road, who ran straight across the road in an attempt to recover a large orange coloured ball of 9" diameter. I was following the Morris car at approx. 27 m.p.h. about to overtake it when it suddenly swerved to the right to avoid hitting the child as she ran into the road. I swerved to my right side to clear the car and suddenly saw the child. She stopped, hesitated, and finally continued across after the ball in front of me. I applied the brakes to their limit and the car swerved acutely round to the left due to both front wheels locking and taking charge of the steering. The front N.S. wing of 1. P.II then fouled the O.S. rear wing of the Morris car. The rear O.S. wing of the Morris car was dented on the top about 14" long and 2 1/2" wide. The front N.S. wing of 1.P.II was dented at the side in the centre about 8" long X 2" wide. I was accompanied by M.Wyer. Check 157. Mr.C.S.Heath was accompanied by a lady. No one was injured. Mr. Davies of the D.O. witnessed this accident and will give any particulars. G.Ratcliffe Driver-Expl.Dept. Check No. 2409. | ||
