BODY FOR FIRST EAC.7. CHASSIS. K7830

We thank you for HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/RM{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}3/LG24227., and note your suggestions for fitting the body.

We have some doubts as to the possibility of fitting the body at Lillie Hall unobtrusively as it is the one place where sundry owners, chauffeurs, and our outside staff of drivers etc are always coming and going. Since there is a very strong rumour going round in interested circles that RR. will shortly change to half elliptic springs at the rear we think it would be very dangerous to the secrecy scheme to take EAC. 7. anywhere near Lillie Hall.

If we have to put the body into a lorry we expected we would take it all the way to Derby in that manner. You will no doubt have some fitting to do in order to mount the body, and this could most conveniently be done in our Works. We do not think that the cost of transport in this manner is worth consideration, in view of the convenience of the scheme, and time saved.

If however this cannot be done we think that the body could be mounted on a standard chassis, if only by letting the cross members of the subframe rest upon the chassis frame. We see no harm in this if the car is driven slowly and carefully. The body could be held down by strong wire or other suitable material.

However we would not like to give a verdict on this question without looking at it more closely, and this we will do. We would be glad however if you would wire us immediately stating whether you can agree to the suggestion of taking the body all the way by lorry to Derby and whether you can provide a lorry from the Works. If not we think we shall have to attempt to fix the body up on a standard chassis temporarily.
