O.{Mr Oldham} from Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} X4256 ? Hm{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs}6/W2.1.25. Chassis No. 6-G-2 - 20HP. Experimental Car. I noticed when I ran this car the other day that the Rear Axle had developed a bad noise. My previous recollection of this car is that it was a good quiet axle, and now the axle spoils the whole car. We are extremely interested in Axles developing noise such as this has done both on the 40/50HP. and 20HP. It is a very expensive item and free of charge work which we carry out on cars, and probably this is a good opportunity to investigate and find out whether something can be done to prevent it happening. An unfortunate feature of this trouble is that if the gears are run long in a noisy position they can never be reset in a quiet position. It seems as though running in a noisy position ruins the whole of the gears, and our experience is that this necessitates new wheels. Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} | ||
