Rolls-Royce Ltd., DERBY. Re Mr. Lappin's call. Dear Sirs, Further to your favour of the 25th inst., re Speedometer No. H.753, we would now report that this instrument was adjusted and put back on the car on Monday evening, the 28th inst. On examination we found that this instrument had been demounted away from these Works and the Mileage had been refitted with different screws to those we usually fit, and that the Mileage was not fitted back in the proper manner, the result of which was that a star-wheel was broken and there had been strain on the whole mechanism, in such a way that the worm-pinion and wheel had actually been forced out of mesh. We are quite certain that the trouble with this instrument is not due to any faulty workmanship on our part. However, we beg to assure you that the Speedometer was put back in perfect order and was working properly when the car left here on Monday evening. Always at your service, Yours faithfully, For A.T. SPEEDOMETER CO. LTD., A R Buckland Director. | ||
