In reply to the above :-

(1) With reference to squeaking brakes. This trouble is being thoroughly gone into. We have been working on it experimentally for some considerable time. We have found means of reducing it but so far we have no permanent cure which we could recommend. We are working in connection with the Ferodo people. We are also trying brake liners manufactured by other people.

(2) Wear on foot brake drums. The adjustment on the foot brake is arranged so that there is only a limited movement. There is not the least risk of the drum not being able to be got off. With regard to putting the drum back again, we should expect that, if when the drum is removed considerable wear has taken place on the portion where the foot brake rubs, that the drum should be turned true before it is re-adjusted.

(3) Consideration was given some time ago to the wear on the 20 HP. brake drums. Commencing 751 chassis, cars will be fitted with brake drums made from .6 carbon steel. This is the same material as used on the 40/50 HP., and those cars are entirely free from wear on the brake drums. We have also taken the question up with R.{Sir Henry Royce} that the foot brake shoes should be made wider because of the extra work they have to do compared with the hand brake. This scheme was partially agreed to but will now most probably be given up in view of the suggestion of fitting 4-wheel brakes. 4-wheel brakes will contd:-
