Silver Ripple Chassis Layout Reason for scheme: This scheme has been produced to provide a general arrangement of the chassis for the prototypes to Specification PL.3004, Stage I. Description of scheme: The chassis generally is on the lines of the production, the major differences are as follows:- (1) Bent front pan (standard Rationalised Range .104). (2) Frame back of dash to centre line of rear axle 89.5" (standard BV). Front wheels to back of dash reduced from 34.500 to 20.500, and frame gauge is .080 instead of .104. Frame is also to be of welded construction. (3) 14 gallons petrol tank of new shape at rear to provide for carrying of spare wheel in boot. This has necessitated using Gordon Armstrong shock dampers in front of rear axle in place of R.R. shock dampers at rear. (4) The engine is 4 cylinder 3" x 4 1/2" 2.437 litres. Clutch and gearbox is senior rationalised range. (5) A new exhaust system is required which will be of the single Burgess type. (6) The rear axle is the Senior Rationalised Range Semifloating type with a new axle ratio.
