X8410 We have beentesting some of the special Woodhead springs which are fitted with 4 rebound leaves, each leaf having a rebound clip on each end so that the rebound leaves take a share of the compression load. We have tested some of the springs on the bumper. From the results so far, we should say that the springs will have a longer life than the present [crossed out text] springs. We have completed 50 hrs. running. We have had no case of the main plate breaking; we have had 2 of the top rebound plates break. The other advantages we think we may expect from these springs are, that they should be definitely better for resisting torque of the front brakes. Tests are being made to obtain a value for this. They also have more internal damping which should relieve the load on any external damping which we may get. We attach a blueprint which gives a comparison of the new Woodhead spring compared with the present standard.
