EXPERIMENTAL REPORT
Expt: No. 634.

PERIODS OF VIBRATIONS PICKING UP ON
40/50 HP. CARS.
(1) Standard suspension of engine.
Vibration felt on steering wheel at 8 m.p.h. very slight. 14 m.p.h. a period with max. at 15.5 m.p.h. is very bad causing windows, doors, rear pannels and instrument Board fittings to vibrate in sympathy (closed car). At 22 m.p.h. there is a very slight period.
Retard vibrations are slight and come on at 14 m.p.h. & dying out approx. 12 m.p.h.
(2) Suspension made solid at front.
Vibrations felt on steering wheel at 8 m.p.h. in test No.1 are hardly noticeable. The second period comes on at 14 m.p.h. with a max. at 16 m.p.h. They are less in amplitude by 50%. Vibration on instrument board pannels etc. are very much reduced - max closed and open cars. 22 m.p.h. period is practically nil. Retard vibrations are very slight but are stronger than 1st. test.
(3) Suspension solid at front - rear flexible.
Vibrations felt on steering wheel at 8 m.p.h. and stronger than previous test but not bad. The second period comes on at 14 m.p.h. - max. 16 m.p.h. lasting much longer than previous tests but are definitely less in amplitude. A slight vibration is noticeable on instrument board and windows - none on pannels - 75% decrease.
A very much worse period is brought up at 22 m.p.h. keeping on until 36 m.p.h. After this the vibrations are still on but with less strength. This period is worse and more noticeable than the lower period in 1st. test.
Retard vibrations are much worse at 14 m.p.h.
